"I needed to contact turbo tax consultant for help with issue that I could not resolve with the on-line version. I needed access to certain forms that the consultant advised were available from the off-the-shelf version. this difference in versions is not obvious to consumers and makes me wonder what else is withheld by turbo tax."
"The instructions for entering K-1 data is unclear leaving me to experiment in order to enter data that would pass the TurboTax checks. Secondly, a detailed explanation entry form popped up with no indication of why. I simply entered: "TurboTax generated value.""
"This is the fourth year I use TurboTax and I am mostly pleased with the results. Every year though I have a question that takes awhile for me to find the answer. This year, I posted a question on the Live Community but I can’t seem to find it in the history. Last year (2008). I never got notified in email about an answer to my question. Yet I have recommended Turbo Tax to my colleagues and friends and a few of them have decided to go forward and take ownership of their filing using the product.
The software is rich and covered all the specific topics I needed. Yet, there is nothing TurboTax can do about a crappie and convoluted tax code (don’t get me started with the State level, especially with RI). I do think it allows most taxpayers, even the ones with a few unusual situations to file their taxes in confidence.
I did not want to pay the fee to ‘ask an expert’ and the LiveCommunity should give enough information. I do subscribe to the Audit Protection program. The first year I used TurboTax, I paid for the professional review service. I don’t feel the need to reuse the service.
Pros: Easy navigation, good instructions at Federal level. Ability to switch view form and user interface. Live Community.
Cons: I get annoyed with the marketing of TurboTax and the multitude of price points. I could have purchased it with a 25% discount through my employer but that was not giving me the best price (I need one Fed + two states). Then I get offers by email from my bank and other vendors that I can buy TurboTax through them also at a discount (too late, I already purchased the thing) In any case, I find that I get the best initial purchase price at BJ’s wholesales club. Buying the CD there was $10 cheaper then downloading the software directly from Intuit! Why isn’t there one price point/discount for repeat/returning users?
Finally, I was having trouble in one of the RI questions and even though I was clicking the back button on the user interface, it would not remove/clear the ‘data’ in the form so I went and deleted the form to start fresh again.
I plan to use TurboTax next year."
"Have been using TurboTax for about 9 years. Best tax program around. Beats H&R Block which is cheaper but H&R Block dosen't show or carryover the detail information from previous year-you have to enter detail (line) data. Have try H&R HOME but found that you have to re-enter detail data. TurboTax gives you more for you money and save you a lot of preparation time. Just put in the numbers. Plus TurboTax lets you download ((IMPORT) most of your Financial Data and Stock Data from your Brokers and/or Banks. Thanks, Best Ever."
