Review of TurboTax Premier - CD or Download 2011Pros:- Continued to enjoy being able to try things and then remove them if they don't result in a deduction
Cons:- Did not import deductions from last year
"This year did not seem as automatic as previous years. Deductions that I have taken every year such as home office expenses and business expenses didn't show up and I had to dig for them."

Cons:- took awhile to dig out answer to energy credit question
"This year's changes made things go much faster this year. Better import function from our financial institution as well. Looking forward to the day all W-2's and more bank account info. can be imported as well. Thank you."

Cons:- Horrible bugs
"Do not use Turbo tax except for simple tax filings. Do not waste your time and money purchasing Turbotax Premier. If you find that you need the Premier edition (for rental and stock sales), trust me, save yourself the grief, go to a tax consultant. If you hit a snag (error flagged in turbotax) during your tax returns, you're toast."

Review of TurboTax Premier - CD or Download 2011Pros:- Saves time, especially if you have a simple return
Cons:- Some questions are not explained at all
"Received surprise K-1s for exchange-traded ETFs structured as Limited Partnerships. The forums here and elsewhere show there is total confusion about how to handle these. I finally figured it out, but if I had no previous experience with taxes I couldn't have.
These investment products are popular enough there should have been specific instructions for dealing with them. The ETF issuer, broker, and Intuit don't want to go much further than to say to talk to your tax consultant.
In general, the help in TurboTax is shallow and superficial. The "guided interview" is not as helpful as when I first used it years ago.
Still, I would tell a friend to use it - if he was willing to put some effort into understanding it." -

Cons:- Lots of 2010 didn't transfer, NO HELP
"A bunch of my information from 2010 didn't transfer into 2011. It was a total pain especially when it came to depreciation items. UGH! And, even worse, is your utter and totally pathetic help. I put in the word transfer (your term for bringing forward 2010 info to 2011) and it comes up with NOTHING!! How pathetic. You are yet another cheap software company that decides to let blogs and other people answer the questions about your software instead of providing a good help guide. I'm angry at Turbo Tax and I think I may dump you after this year!"

"I HAD SOME K-1 REPORTS AND USED THE LIVE TAX EXPERT TO GET THE THE RIGHT ANSWERS. I NOW HAVE AN E-MAIL DOCUMENTING MY Q&A.
THE DIRECT IMPORT OF DATA FROM BROKERS REALLY SAVED TIME AND ELIMINATED ERRORS OF TRANSPOSING NUMBERS OR JUST PLAIN MISTAKES.
EXPLAIN THIS MAKES IT EASY TO CHECK THE RIGHT BOXES AND THE MORE INFORMATION WAS GREAT WHEN I NEEDED IT. EASY TO PRINT THE ANSWER FOR LATER REVIEW .
FREE E-FILE NOT ONLY SAVES POSTAGE BUT GIVES VALUABLE PROOF THE RETURN WAS FILEDAND ON TIME. BECAUSE YES BOTH THE POST OFFICE AND IRS WILL AT TIMES LOOSE THESE THINGS.
AND YOU CAN SEND IT AT ANY TIME, LIKE WHO WANTS TO GO TO THE POST OFFICE AT 12.10 AM, OH, THEY AREN'T OPEN TO GIVE YOU THE RECEIPT THAT YOU NEED TO PROVE YOU MAILED IT,( JUST IN CASE IT GETS LOST IN ONE OF THESE SYSTEMS. ), THEN THE IRS WILL SAY YOU DIDN'T FILE AND START GHARGING PENALTIES, FINES AND INTEREST!

"I revisited my tax return following an extension request via Turbo Tax, and the unfortunate issue with Turbo Tax is that the package was unable to pick up from the last time I used the package. In other words what I did, what I paid and what remains outstanding and where I have to send my payment to."

Review of TurboTax Premier - CD or Download 2011Pros:- The process was smooth, educational, and "fun"
Cons:- Given the troubles from the previous years, I was expecting the software to fail/exception
"I am a user who enters approx 100 trades over the year, small number for a real investor, but more than I would like to enter when the software constantly dies.
The previous two years, that what has happened. Every time I attempted to enter trade data (sale date, cost basis, etc), the computer would blue screen. This made tax time VERY difficult for me and I was often scrambling looking for alternatives.
Luckily this year, you guys "exceeded" my expectations. Thank you for working hard to fix the problems with your software and reinstating my thoughts that this is the most useful software out there. Of course, i've proclaimed your ineptitude these past few years, but that can be remedied. I will tell all my friends/coworkers/cohorts that TurboTax is once again, a powerful and good piece of software. A must have. Thank you." -
